Assessment Schedule for Achievement

Because we support students, we commit to taking measures that will support student achievement. Therefore, as one measure, major assessments including tests, out of class projects, quizzes, and other assessments will be scheduled on your department’s assigned day only.

M- Foreign Language, Music,

T-English, Social Studies, Art

W-Science, Foreign Language, CTE, Family and Consumer Science, Physical Education, Math

Th-Social Studies, English, Health, Art, Music

F-Math, Science, Physical Education, CTE, Family and Consumer Science

Clarification: Teachers must respect religious holidays, school assemblies, class meetings, breaks, half-days, etc. that are prescheduled. Prescheduled events will not give you permission to assess on an unassigned day. Only in emergency situations—when the school day or a portion of it is cancelled—will assessment days be postponed.

Rationale

A required assessment schedule will guarantee students:

  • a more predictable schedule for preparing and completing major assessments.
  • avoid piling up multiple tests on the same day
  • encourage students to devote time to preparing for major assessments
  • discourage students from making excuses regarding assessment preparation
  • help students prioritize their time
  • teach test preparation skills, including modeling the final exam experience and other high-stakes assessments
  • ILC will be better able to provide testing support for special ed students and are able to staff their operation

We already schedule finals over a week for these very reasons.

Goals/Outcome

  • fewer tests on fewer days
  • improved test performance
  • improve students’ time management
  • help students plan for the long term
  • improved academic skills
