Huron
has identified several areas of focus for the 2006-07 school year.
One areas of improvement is in the area of mathematics. Especially
in Algebra I which is a gate-keeping course.
We have added Algebra Recovery for the second semester which will support
more students in completing Algebra I.
Another area of concern is reading/literacy. We feel that some of our
students are experiencing academic difficulties and that reading may
be a component in supporting those students.
We are exploring strategies to enhance reading in the curriculum. We
will continue our efforts to reach the 95% MEAP participation. A plan to
provide incentives for MEAP participation is being developed.
We have aligned our building based professional development around improving
achievement for all students.
A plan is in place to provide the staff training
in cultural competency. The staff will read and participate in discussions
centered around improving academic achievement.
We are also looking at
the implementation of the restorative justice model aimed at reducing
the number of suspensions.
