MORE ABOUT SPORTSMANSHIP
The AAPS Rights and Responsibilities Handbook discusses several behaviors that are against school rules. These rules apply to after-school activities and games, as well as conduct such as (but no limited to) insubordination, willful disobedience, indecent/obscene gestures, interference with school personnel, inappropriate dress, disruptive conduct, use or pssession of alcohol/drugs, vandalism, and verbal or physical assaults. For the safety of all in attendance, Huron High School will not accept these types of behavior at games. In addition, the following are not specifically permitted at athletic contests: throwing items, wearing t-shirts or other garments with inappropriate messages, or being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Huron High School students conform to very high standards. No one is allowed to lead or participate in inappropriate cheers or chants. No one is allowed to disrupt play in any fashion. No one is allowed to come onto the playing surface at the end of a game. The penalty for misconduct at athletic events can not only include school suspension (or other discipline) but also exclusion from future athletic evetns. Why take the chance? Why ruin great moments in school history? The Athletic Department is not opposed to school spirit. We need enthusiastic spectators. They help all of our teams play harder and this greater efforts wins games! But even though spectators are important, remember that they are not part of the team. They do not make sacrifices that team members do every day of the season to train, stay eligible, and be a cohesive group. In moments of great glory, spectators should do what they do best which is cheer positively and support from the spectator area. The spotlight on the field belongs to those who have earned the right. None of us will ever sanction spectator conduct that is inappropriate, potentially dangerous, disrespectful to our opponents and their fans, or tarnishes the moment. After all, this is Huron. We set the standard for other schools, always, and in every way. Our style of school spirit has no equal. Let's get behind each other and all our teams this year. Let's do it right with River Rat green and gold pride. Whose house? Green house! Make good choices. Working together, we can be strong. |
