In my classroom I ask that you be responsible for yourself, and that you respect your fellow classmates and me. I want you to be successful and have a great year in Spanish class, and I also insist that you give your classmates the same opportunity. Below I have outlined four general expectations that I think are important for your success in Spanish class.
1. Be in class
3. Be prepared
2. Be on time
4. Be courteous
Be in class

It is extremely important that you be in class every single day. This is true for any class, but it is especially important for foreign language class. When you are gone, you miss activities that cannot be made up: videos, listening activities, speaking in groups, ect. Your success in this class depends largely upon your being here every day!

EXCUSED ABSENCES: If you are absent due to illness, religion observances, or any other reason considered acceptable by the school district it is your responsibility to have a parent call your class secretary within 24 hours. When you return to class, check the Absent Assignment Notebook for the explanation/personal copy of what was covered during your absence and what you will be expected to make up. According to school policy, you are allowed the number of days you were absent plus one additional day maximum to turn in ant missed assignments. If you need additional time due to special circumstances please consult with me.

In addition to the school policy regarding makeup work, I also have my own rules. If you are absent on the day before a scheduled test, quiz, presentation, ect. you will still be expected to take that test or quiz on the scheduled day.

If you are absent on the day of the scheduled test, quiz, presentation, ect. you need to schedule a time for a make up during lunch or after school.

UNEXCUSED ABSENCES: If you are absent due to any other reason than those considered acceptable by the school district, your absence will be unexcused. I will post unexcused absences biweekly for your knowledge. Do not wail until your graded has been affected in order to excuse an absence. A pattern of excessive absences will result in a phone call home and/or referral to your counselor or administrator. No credit will be given for make-up work due to unexcused absences. Each unexcused absence will result in the following consequences: Loss of credit for that day's homework assignment, Loss of credit for any missed assignments, quizzes or tests administered that day. Your entire marking period grade will be reduced by 2% for EACH unexcused absence.

Be on time

TARDINESS: your arriving late disrupts our lesson and causes you to miss important information. Tardiness in my classroom is defined as arriving after the bell has rung.

Students who arrive to class after the bell has rung must present an excused yellow corridor pass from a Huron staff member or an unexcused tardy "Red Pass" given by an administrator. Please refer to the Huron High School Tardy Policy regadring procedures and consequences for unexcused tardies.

I do understand that an emergency may arise. In which case, I will allow each student two "Emergency Passes" per marking period to be used for the purpose of using the restroom or retriveing forgotten materials from your locker. If you fing it necessary to use an "Emergencia", I do ask that you come to class first in order to notify me of your intention to be late, to check in any homework due for that day and to have your "Emergencia" signed by me. Any additional requests beyond the two that are allowed each marking period will be granted provided that you are willing to accept an unexcused tardy (Red Pass). On days that a subsitute teacher is in charge, emergency passes will be null and void--you will not be allowed to leave unless you have a call slip.
