| Course Goal: ESL 3 helps students develop the language skills necessary to succeed academically in their courses at Huron High School and college. ESL 3 helps students to be independent, lifelong learners. The main focus of this class is to learn the English language through listening, speaking, pronunciation, vocabulary, reading, writing, grammar, and culture. There will be quizzes, tests, book reports, and unit projects. Students must bring their textbooks to class everyday. |

This high school ESL series teaches academic content-based English through varied genre reading selections that support content area classroom learning. You will learn key words, academic vocabulary, and reading strategies to help you understand academic reading selections. Thematic units include related work in previewing, reading, reading fluency, comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, writing, listening, speaking, pronunciation, book reports, and unit projects. Workbook activities help to reinforce daily learning.

Dictionaries
It is strongly recommended that students bring a bilingual dictionary to school everyday. Always check with the classroom teacher to be sure that you can use your dictionary.
Student Planners
It is strongly recommended that students use their planners to write down assignments, school events and help manage their time.
Semester Grades
Class Participation - individual, pairs, small group and whole class, attendance, homework assignments, quizzes, tests, book reports, and projects will count for 80% of your final grade. Your final examination will count for 20% of your final semester grade.
