Huron Honors 605 Scholar Athletes in 2007!

Huron High School has a tradition of honoring its Scholar Athletes in an annual award ceremony that is sponsored by the Booster Club.   This year's ceremony was held in the Paul K. Meyers Auditorium on March 6, 2007.

The program featured Rod Sorenson as the Coach & Faculty keynote speaker.   Rod is the women's track & field coach at Huron High School.   The student athlete speaker was senior, Peter Helvie.   Peter is a varsity athlete in three sports; football, basketball and lacrosse.

Awards were presented to the athletes by their coach with congratulations also offered by Dr. Arthur Williams, Huron Principal and Dottie Davis, Athletic Director at Huron.

Scholar-athletes from the second semester 2005-06 (winter and spring sport seasons) and from the first semester 2006-07 school year (fall and winter sport seasons) were honored.

In order to qualify for a Scholar Athlete award, a student must maintain a 3.2 grade point average during the semester of participation and must participate (and finish the season in good standing) in at least one of the Huron High School sports offered at any level (ninth grade, junior varsity or varsity).

The current enrollment at Huron High School is 2288 students.   Over the last two semesters, 1502 student names appeared on the team rosters in 33 sports.

Congratulations to all!
