Explore
the intriguing world of sports and entertainment from the perspective
of management and marketing. This
course is designed to introduce students to the rapidly growing
field of Sports and Entertainment Administration and Management.
Students will be introduced to such topics as college and
amateur sports, professional sports, public images, marketing entertainment,
marketing
plans and legal issues, and will study different types of management philosophies.
Students
will focus on learning some of the basic skills needed to become
an effective
sports and entertainment manager. Students will analyze
case studies, search on-line for key marketing, management and statistical
information. Students will prepare reports and PowerPoint presentations.
Students
will also experience a virtual simulation. Students will gain hands-on
experience
in a highly visual football franchise simulation. Students will start
and work to grow their business over several seasons to make it profitable.
This highly visual
computer simulation of a football franchise lets students handle
promotion, develop ticket pricing strategies, evaluate stadiums and city locations, control stadium operations
and staffing, find sponsors and licensing deals, and more. Students
will receive .5 credit for this elective
course.
