Jim Calder - Auto Service Technology

COURSE DESCRIPTION-AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY

This class is design to familiarize the student with the trouble shooting aspects of automotive technology. Entry skills necessary to automotive technicians will be stressed in each section. This is a one-year, two period (360 hours) course.

 
Section to be covered include;
1.
Review of basic shop practices. (10 hours)

 
2. Brakes (150 hours)
  a. Brake fundamentals
  b. Drum brakes
  c. Disc brakes
  d. Brake hydraulics
  e. Anti-lock brakes
3. Electrical and electronic systems. (230 hours)
  a. Fundamentals of electricity
  b. Automotive battery
  c. Starting systems
  d. Charging systems
  e. Lighting systems
  f. Gauges and warning systems
  g. Accessories


Grading Method

9 week grade based on a percentage of accumulated points


1. 20 points per quiz
100-90%
A
2. 10 points per lab
89-80%
B
3. 10 points per written assignment
79-70%
C
 
69-60%
D

NOTE - A 2% grade reduction will be assessed for each unexcused absence.

Final grade based on total points from 1st and 2nd marking periods and 100 points for final exam.
The above grading scale will be used.

Expectations

Participate in class every day with the above mentioned materials.
Make up work missed due to excused absences within 2 days of returning to school.
Take notes during class and study these notes for quizzes.
