Job Shadowing is provided in cooperation with local businesses. Job shadowing is a short-term experience arranged through a cooperative education director or school counselor. It provides an opportunity to explore a career of the student's choice.
This involves a visit to a workplace during which the student follows an employee around. The student has an opportunity to see what the worker really does in his/her job.
By observation and questioning, the student can almost feel as though he/she is in the position.
Prior classroom learning and preparation for job shadowing helps students connect the experience with academics, career pathways, related job skill requirements, and future education and employment opportunities. The length of time for shadowing can vary from one hour to a full day.
Some common characteristics of job shadowing are:
*providing realistic vews of specific jobs
*observing employees on the job
*questioning the employee shadowed
