Key Events in College Planning: Sophomores Return to:
Guidance & Counseling
Career Resource Center

If you haven't already, get involved in school and club activities. Get involved in a sports team. Get involved in community service projects and activities.
Check with your counselor to be sure your chosen courses are preparing you for college. Colleges prefer three to four years of English, history, math, science, and a language. Talk to counselor about taking an AP course in one of your strong subject areas.
Take the PSAT in October. These scores your sophomore year will not count, but it's good practice.
Plan to visit the Career Resource Center to explore career interests. Take an interest or personality survey to get an idea of your interests, strengths and weaknesses as you explore your career choices.
Receive results of PSAT and/or PLAN. Consult with your guidance counselor to investigate ways to improve scores on standardized tests.
Start learning about college costs and talking to your family about financing your education.
It's not too early to think about where you want to go to college. Just keep your options open. Talk to college-going friends who are home on breaks and ask them about their experiences.
In April, register to take the June SAT II: Subject Tests are taking place. If you are particularly strong in one or more school subjects, talk to your counselor or teacher(s) about taking SAT II: Subject Tests: Take Subject Tests such as World History, Biology E/M, and Chemistry while the material is still fresh in your mind.
In June, take the SAT II.
