Graduation Requirements - Social Studies

Course Offerings in Social Studies (Adobe PDF)

UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT

Each student must earn one-half credit in United States Government.
Many students will schedule this course in the twelfth grade. However, eleventh grade students who plan to take a two hour block course in their senior year may elect to take United States Government in the second semester of the eleventh grade. (At Pioneer, United States Government and Law are combined in a one year course called
Civics.)

UNITED STATES HISTORY

During the 11th grade, each student must earn one credit in United States History. Credit earned in the United States History courses and American Studies will be applied toward this requirement. Includes U.S. History, AP U.S. History, American Studies.

LAW

Each student must earn one-half credit in law. Most students will probably take 0211 Law in the ninth grade.

NOTE: If a student did not take 0211 Law in grade 9, the business education course, 6123 Advanced Law at PHS, Law at Huron & CHS may be substituted to meet the Law graduation requirement in grades 10-12. (At Pioneer, United States Government and Law are combined in a one-year course called Civics.)

AFRICAN CIVILIZATIONS, ASIAN CIVILIZATIONS, LATIN
AMERICAN CIVILIZATIONS, MIDDLE EASTERN CIVILIZATIONS

Students must earn one-half credit by electing one of the following one semester courses:

African Civilizations
Asian Civilizations
Latin American Civilizations
Middle Eastern Civilizations

WESTERN CIVILIZATIONS

During grades 9–12, each student must earn one-half credit in Western Civilization. Most students will probably take this course in the tenth grade. The Humanities course (02445) satisfies the Western
Civilization course requirement.
