Journal
You
will be required to write one full page ( front only, skipping
a line ) in your journal during the first five minutes of class.
Sometimes, topics will be posted on the board. When no topic
is posted, it's a free write.
You
will be expected to begin your journal the moment the bell rings.
There will be no talking during bell work. Failure to do bell
work, as well as talking, will result in an automatic zero.
Bell
work turned in after the five-minute period will not be accepted.
Portfolio
Each
of your written assignments will be kept in a portfolio. Every
time you get a written assignment back from me, you will make
any suggested changes and turn in a clean copy, along with your
original draft. All articles must be typed.
Homework
Policy
1)
All homework is to be turned in when you come into class in
your hour's box. Homework turned in during class, after class
or elsewhere during the day will be an automatic zero.
2)
Everything you turn in should include your name, date and hour
in the upper right hand corner of your paper. No name could
result in zero.
3)
If you are absent, it is your responsibility to ask what assignments
you missed upon your return. For every day you are absent, you
have that many days to make up the work.
4)
No late homework assignments 25 points or less will be accepted.
5)
Assignments over 25 points will go own 10 points for every day
it's late.
6)
Please bring a note from your parent or guardian if you are
unable to complete assignment in the case of a dire circumstance
( i.e. death in the family, serious illness, flood, nuclear
disaster, etc.) so arrangements can be considered.
7)
If you know you will be absent for several days due to an illness,
vacation, etc., it is your responsibility to ask for your assignments
ahead of time.
8)
Quizzes and exams will be made up before or after school on
the day you return from absence. If you are absent the day before
an exam, you are still obligated to take the test the day of
your return.
Extra
Credit
Extra
credit is only available for those students who have not missed
more than two assignments or have not lost more than 10 points
for a rules violation per card marking.
Ten
extra credit points can be earned every time you attend an arts-related
event ( i.e. a play, symphony, jazz concert, musical, opera,
art exhibit, etc.) or see one of the movies posted on the "
Now Showing" board in the classroom. Ant film showing at
the Michigan Theater or the State Theater qualifies for extra
credit.
Foreign
language films earn you 15 extra credit points.
In
order to recieve your points, you must submit a one page ( typed
and double spaced) critical review ( not a summary!) and attach
proof of your attendance (e.g. ticket stub) to earn extra credit.
You
cannot earn extra credit if you do not provide a ticket stub.
No exceptions.
