Police Liaison Officer - Office Jason Gold

The Board of Education authorizes the establishment of "Local School Rules" to help ensure a safe, constructive, and productive learning/working environment. The Local School Rules are not all-inclusive, but are expected to provide general guidelines for student behavior. They are consistent with Ann Arbor Board of Education policies and state laws and we expect everyone at Huron High School to abide by them.

Safety and Security: A safe and secure environment is where one lives without physical and verbal harassment; without the influence of drugs; and without the loss or destruction of school or personal property. The five categories listed below are the most serious offenses because they affect a safe and secure environment. Administrators will investigate and reported incidents and discipline pursuant to the Rights and Responsibilities Handbook.

1. Weapons: Any object, if used in an aggressive fashion, may be classified as a weapon. Michigan law requires schools to expel students who bring dangerous weapons to school. Students may choose to receive a hall locker assignment and the combination to its lock during registration in August. If you need help opening your combination lock or you need to have a combination changed, contact the general office personnel. Do not consider your locker to be a secure space--it is not wise to leave valuable items in your locker.
2. Physical Violence (fighting, assault, physical intimidation) - Any form of physical violence will not be tolerated at Huron High School .

3. Drug Use, Possession & Sales - Drug use, possession and sales are strictly prohibited at Huron High School . Students who become involved with drugs will be reported to the Ann Arbor Police.

4. Harassment - All reported incidents of harassment would be investigated pursuant to Board of Education's policies regarding harassment.

5. Theft and Destruction of Property - Vandalism, theft and destruction of property will not be tolerated. Every effort will be made to identify and prosecute offenders. Writing, defacing, marking and/or painting on any part of the Huron building, including lockers, desks, chairs and educational materials, is prohibited. Students are subject to a $30.00 maintenance fee.

Lockers are made available for your use--to store school supplies and personal items necessary for use at school. But you may not store items which cause, or which could reasonably be foreseen to cause, an interference with school purposes or an educational function, or which are forbidden by Michigan law or school rules

Safety and Security Procedures for Students: The safety and security of students is of the utmost concern to the staff of this building. Students are urged to take advantage of the following:

1. Your Vehicle - Lock your vehicle and do not leave money or valuable items inside. Please do not leave any identifying items in or on your car so that if your keys are stolen your car won't be. If you are going to be here after dark, park your car under a street light. Leave your keys locked up during the day and do not lend them to other students.

2. Traveling - Be observant when moving around the building or in the parking lots. Stay in well lit and heavily traveled areas. Don't display large amount of cash or valuables.

3. Locker Security - Please lock your locker. Do not give another student your combination. If you have had something stolen, tell the school police liaison and get the combination changed. Leave valuables at home.

4. Safety of Valuables - Do not leave money or valuables in your locker or vehicle. Lock your purse or other valuables in a place where only you have a key or combination.

5. Keys - Safeguard your keys and never lend them to another student. Some people find it handy to place their keys on a chain or lanyard so they are always attached. Do not leave your keys unattended.

6. Reporting - Please report any suspicious activity to your class principal or school police liaison (994-2099).

7. Fire - Please familiarize yourself with the exit and evacuation plan for fire for each classroom for each hour. Please move quickly and calmly to the nearest safe exit and leave the building. You must be 100 feet from the building. Do not leave by the elevator.

8. Sever Weather/Safety Alerts - Please familiarize yourself with the evacuation procedures for severe weather/safety in each classroom for each hour. Please move quickly and calmly to your rooms' assigned area in the building. Follow all instructions of adults. Wait for the all clear before returning to your room.

9. Recreational Activities - Please familiarize you and abide by the posted rules concerning the use of the pool, exercise facility and recreational equipment. You should be supervised at all times; if no supervision is available, leave the facility.

10. Managing Conflict - If you are having a problem with someone and would like to work it out, contact the your class office .
