For Parents! Which Choir is Which? The
Huron Singers & Cantando Choirs are the first level. Huron
Singers is the entry- level mens’ choir. Cantando Choir is
the entry-level womens’ choir. No auditions are necessary for these two
groups. Curricular focus is on
development of basic musical skills including music sight reading, and
appropriate vocal production. For
women, the next level is the advanced womens’ choir, Bel Canto.
Audition with the conductor is a requirement of membership in Bel Canto. Auditionees must demonstrate advanced sight reading and
vocal production skills. The
top level mixed choir is A Cappella
Choir. Audition with the conductor
is required. Auditionees
must demonstrate superior sight reading and vocal production skills. Chamber Choir is a small, madrigal group consisting of the most
advanced singers from A Cappella Choir. Chamber
Choir participates in District and State Solo and Ensemble Festivals and
other events throughout the year. They
are available for community events. Auditions Auditions
for Bel Canto and A Cappella Choir are held in the spring for the following school
year. Arrangements may be made by
contacting the conductors. Uniforms Formal
dress uniforms are supplied for each choir.
A yearly cleaning fee of $15.00 is required. Huron Music Association The
Huron High School Music Department is supported by the Huron Music Association. All
parents are encouraged to become active in this organization. The HMA
brings together parents from our choirs, bands and orchestras. We act as an entire music department, rather
than being split into individual choir, band and orchestra associations. Our strength is in our unity! The HMA
meets monthly, usually on the second Thursday of each month at Private Lessons Individual
attention through private lessons is beneficial to every student. The conductors will be glad to help students
and parents who are interested in finding a private teacher. Music and Sports A
large majority of our choir students are involved in at least one sport. When potential schedule conflicts arise,
please contact your conductor as soon as possible. We will directly contact the coach. The key
to success is for each student and parent to communicate potential problems far
ahead of the date in question. The
ability to forge a solution that is positive for both the choir and sports team
is directly correlated to the amount of time available. |
