Orchestras

Description of Orchestras

Philharmonia Orchestra is the current entry-level performance group comprised of ONLY 9th-graders.  No audition is necessary, just a desire to improve as a string player and a musician.  Private lessons are strongly encouraged as consistent progress throughout the school year is expected for greater enhancement of playing skills.  The focus will be on improving basic skills throughout the year in order to win acceptance into the Concert or Symphony Orchestra for the following year.

Concert Orchestra is the current mid-level performance group comprised of mainly sophomores and freshmen.  The level of music is from grade 3-5 which is the higher level of difficulty for high school musicians.  Private lessons are strongly encouraged as consistent progress throughout the school year is expected for greater enhancement of playing skills. This group rehearses twice a week with the finest brass, wind and percussion performers the Huron Concert Band has to offer.  Participation in the Concert Orchestra is by audition only.

Symphony Orchestra is the highest-level orchestra available to students at Huron.  The music and expectations are at the university level.  Private lessons are expected of ALL members.  This group rehearses twice a week with the finest brass, wind and percussion performers the Huron Symphony Band has to offer.  Participation in the Symphony Orchestra is by audition only, which occurs in the spring every year.
