Ann Arbor Huron High School - Social Studies - Requirements

Students must earn three and one half units of credit in the Social Studies Department to satisfy the Board of Education's graduation requirements. The requirements for graduation are detailed in the Student Services Guide.

All ninth graders must select a Law course and a Non-Western Civilization course.

Non-Western Civilization courses include the history and civilization of either:

- Latin America
- Asia
- Africa
- Middle East

Both of these requirements are aso fulfilled if a student elects the Interdisciplinary Block.

Students usually elect Western Civilization, a one semester course, as sophomores. The Western Civilization graduation requirement can be satisfied by electing the two semester Senior Humanities course as a senior.

Students select United States History as juniors and United States Government as seniors, although juniors may take the Government course during the second semester.

All courses are aligned to Michigan's Benchmark Standards for Social Studies. The Social Studies portion of the MEAP is administered in the spring of the eleventh grade year.

There is also a variety of elective courses offered.
